Greenfield Commons
Affordable Multi-Family Housing Project located
The Greenfield Commons development is envisioned as 3 clusters of low scale buildings organized around landscaped courtyards. A total of 222 affordable apartment homes are presented in multiple two-level buildings to create a neighborhood feel that is consistent with the rural nature of the site and the scale of the surrounding development. The density is transitional from the downtown center to the west and the single family development to the east. The unit mix provides a variety of one, two, and three bedroom configurations to accommodate the local market’s needs.
A common community building is positioned prominently at the corner of Third Street and Walnut Avenue as a marker to announce the development to the greater Greenfield community as they approach from the west. The site plan incorporates this community building along with other “out-buildings” which include amenities for all the residents. Multi-purpose spaces fitness space secure bicycle parking laundry and leasing offices will be among the amenities accommodated in these buildings. The courtyard spaces are very much an integral component of the development. They are large enough to provide recreational opportunities playgrounds community gathering spaces and more intimate community gardens. Building dimensions have been considered to allow modular prefabricated construction if that is found to be advantageous for the development economics and timeline.
The architecture is envisioned as contemporary in nature while incorporating forms and elements from surrounding agricultural structures. The development instills a modern farmhouse aesthetic using familiar forms and recognizable elements in a modern interpretation.
